Do You have a Yamaha Dirt Bike?

What’s your favorite Yamaha dirt bike? We thought we would put up a page to allow our visitors to add a picture and a story about there favorite Yamaha.

After looking for a way in 1953 to make use of some idle manufacturing equipment, fourth generation president Genichi Kawakami, researched sewing machines, auto parts, scooters, and three-wheeled utility vehicles before he decided on motorcycles. His slogan was "If you're going to do something, be the best” and with-in the following year the first model, and Yamaha motorcycles, was born.


Yamaha YA-1 Dirt Bike The bike, called the YA-1, was powered by an air-cooled 2-stroke 125cc engine and was put through a grueling 10,000 km endurance test to ensure its quality. One year later the YA-1 wins 2 of the biggest race events in Japan.

In 1963 Yamaha develops the Autolube system which was a separate oil injection system for 2-stroke engines thus eliminating the inconvenience of mixing oil in the fuel. Later in 1968 Yamaha develops its first off-road motorcycle named the DT-1 which made a huge impact in the USA as the first true trail bike.
